And there goes March !! 

I apologize I fell a little behind this week. Another month has come and gone. It is always good to see where we stand. Have we improved? Well we shall see. I looks like there was not much activity for us personally. Here was our schedule for that week.

Monday-speed work (1 mile warm up)(8×400) 5k pace (1 mile cool down)

Tuesday-  5 miles (comfortable pace)

Wednesday-(1 mile warm up)(1 or 2 miles time trials) (1 mile cool down)

Thursday- easy (stretch,roll,core work)

Friday- Daniel(6.2 miles) Blanca(total of 12 miles- 4 legs)

Saturday- (Rest)

Sunday- (Rest)

March-77 miles (need to start increasing mileage soon)

I would say that one of our biggest events this week was our time trials. As for Blanca, well let’s just say she was on pace to possibly demolish her best 5 k by a minute. I personally ran my best 1 mile ever. Here the recap. 

As you can see above I ran a personal best of 6:13 for the 1 mile. Blanca ran a 13:27 2 mile. Well under her or pace for the 5k. This was definitely a fun evening. 

We hope to see many more improvements. It’s hard work but definitely well worth it. 

After this both Blanca and I had to prepare because it was time for us to Volunteer for Ragnar Relay race. The race began in Bastrop, Tx ———————————> Luckenbach, Tx. I hear it was a total of 200 miles covered by 12 teammates. Our volunteer shift began at 5:30 am – 9am.  Where we would then meet up with our team and enjoy the ride. 

About 45 from our shift the first legs began to arrive. 

Our team started at 9:30 am which allowed us to see our first leg coming in strong. 

After the first van finished their first leg it was time for some food and much needed rest. 

Later that evening


Not long after Blanca and I had to head home. The group of twelve marched on.

Running club?!?

In the last published blog I mentioned something about big news. I cannot deny it, we were definitely excited. Downtown run group has been named San Antonio’s best running club. In case you do not believe click the link.

We as a whole are very proud of this. We exist to encourage the newbies just the same as the vets. We had a bit of a laugh at the word club. We survive and continue with the support of our very runners. We do not charge a dime. All we ask for is bananas, ice, cups etc.. We are very honored to be considered at the top of this city. 

In other news. I was able to find some deals on shoes. For both Blanca and I our shoes is like our food. Allow me to explain. When I ran my first half marathon in 2011 I came across these really nice Red Adidas Adizero Adios. I have been running in this model shoe since that day. When it comes to food I’m a pretty picky eater. Once I find my favorite menu item I usually just stick to that. Blanca on the other hand is very different. She is willing to always try new things at least once. Blanca began running longer distances and more competitively in 2013. Since that time she has tried on almost every shoe brand at least once. This month we add a new brand to the list. 

Today we are adding the Hoka One One Vanquish.  

   
So she actually got two pairs of shoes. She bought another pair of ON shoes.

  Both pairs were $60. These shoes were originally valued at $170 for the Hoka and $150 for the ON. Wouldn’t you say this was a steal! I would say she is definitely set for our next race. 

Speaking of races I ran my very first trail race. This was the chase my shadow 10k/5k. My wife kept encouraging me to run it so I did. We woke up early to go get Blanca a coffee and make it on time. Race took place at Eisenhower Park.  This time I registered on site. I put my bib on and began warming up. 

 
We lined up and were on our way.

 
The 10k which I registered for was two three mile loops. The first two miles were very technical and had a lot of elevation. The 3rd mile was downhill and straight. That mile allowed me to do some catching up. Here is some action Blanca got at mile three.  

  

  
My first loop was about 30 minutes. My goal for the second loop would be to match it or do it faster.  

 
At this point I’m just kicking as best I could. 

 
I don’t know if you can see it but the timer shows 1:00:0 exactly one hour. When the awards were handed out I found out I finished just under an hour. I came in at a time of 59:59. I achieved my goal.  

  This time was just enough to give me 3rd place in the age category of 20-29. I would consider this a success.
